The Central Nerve System, which is located within the bones of the spine, completely controls all functions and healing in the human body. This system is composed of the spinal cord, spinal nerves, and the brain. Spinal misalignments (subluxations) and abnormal positioning of the spine are the two most common interferences of the Central Nerve System. When the body is suffering from either of these interferences, then its organs will not function or heal normally.
"Vital information travels from the brain and spinal cord to all the parts of the body. But, not only does information travel down the nerve, but at the same time information from the peripheral parts of the body are being sent back to the brain and spinal cord. When this information is interfered with, a problem arises in the body."
-Daniel J. Murphy, D.C; Spinal Biomechanics, Harrison, 1992, p. 366
In order to properly disagnose a body part of bodily function as being "abnormal" or "unhealthy", we must clearly define what is "normal". For example, a normal human blood pressure reading is 120/180, therefore, someone with a blood pressure reading of 150/100 would have high or "abnormal" blood pressure.
In the past few years, medical, anatomical, and engineering researchers have been able to clearly define normal spinal alignment. This research has been published in the world's most prominent medical journals.
When evaluating spinal alignment, there are two proven methods for proper evaluation. The first method is through postural examination, and the second method is through X-rays. Our office utilizes both techniques to evaluate a patient's spine and Central Nerve System. When examining a patient's spine from a frontal view, the spine must be straight. The head, shoulders, hips, and feet should all line up with one another. When examining a patient from a profile view (from the side), his/her ears should be aligned over the shoulders, and the shoulders should be aligned over the pelvis. The key to a healthy spine is good posture!
When evaluating an X-ray from a frontal view, the spinal bones, or vertebrae, must be straight. It is crucial that no bones are rotated or tilted, and that no curvatures (scoliosis) are present. The profile or side view X-ray must present three arcs that measure 63° each. The neck (cervical spine) is the most important of the 63° arcs. This arc has mental life impulses that travel directly from the brain and through this part of the spinal cord, bringing life to the rest of the body. Because of its tremendous level of importance, this arc is also known as the "Arc of Life". People who lose this arc, lead shorter lives due to the severe obstruction to the brain, spinal cord, and nerves (Central Nerve System).
All "abnormal" positioning of the spine, misalignment of the bones, or changes in the 63° curves indicate that there is a serious problem present. It is absolutely essential for everyone to understand that the Central Nerve System will be interfered with and eventually be damaged if the it changes from its "normal" state. Improper healing, poor health, and abnormal function of the body are the results of interference and damage to the Central Nerve System.
"Posture affects and moderates every physiologic function from breathing to hormonal production."
-C. Norman Shealy, MD, Roger K. Cady, MD, et al; ApJM, 1994, Vol.4p. 36
If you are being adjusted today, we have found your spine and Central Nerve System to be "abnormal". Over time, corrective chiropractic adjustments restore normal spinal position and alignment. This correction will eliminate interference in the Central Nerve System, allowing your body to function and heal normally once again at 100% of your God-given potential.
